Acute respiratory diseases, including influenza, remain major global health challenges due to the increasing resistance to antiviral drugs. In this study, to investigate the interaction behavior of herbal compounds, the interactions of two saffron-derived bioactive compounds, Picrocrocin and Safranal, with influenza neuraminidase were examined using molecular dynamics simulations. All simulations were performed under physiological conditions. SASA, RDF, RMSD, gyration radius and electrostatic potentioal were done. The results of RMSD analysis indicated that picrocrocin induced pronounced structural changes in the protein. RDF analysis demonstrated that safranal remained closer to the neuraminidase surface (approximately 0.8 nm), in comparison to picrocrocin. In addition, SASA analysis showed an increased surface hydrophilicity of the protein in the presence of safranal. These findings provide molecular-level insight into the interactions of saffron-derived bioactive compounds with viral proteins. The results showed that these bioactive compounds can be effective in interacting with influenza virus and they can be used as influenza virus neuraminidase inhibitor.
