This research focuses on the adsorptive removal of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) from aqueous solutions using a cost-effective approach involving the production of amorphous silica derived from rice husk. The use of rice husk as a precursor not only reduces costs but also offers an environmentally friendly solution for the management of agricultural waste. The influence of various factors, including initial solution pH (3–11), temperature (25–65 °C), contact time (30–180 minutes), and adsorbent dosage (0.03–0.12 g), was investigated using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Among the factors considered, pH, adsorbent dosage, and temperature exhibited significant effects on the adsorption process, while contact time showed a lesser impact, indicating a relatively rapid adsorption rate during the initial minutes. The optimal conditions for CIP removal were determined as an initial pH of 8.32, a contact time of 180 minutes, an adsorbent dosage of 0.12 g, and a temperature of 25 °C. Under these optimized conditions, a remarkable removal efficiency of 96.42 percent was achieved, demonstrating the high efficacy of the amorphous silica adsorbent derived from rice husk in removing this pharmaceutical pollutant.
